- Dr. Rhonda Patrick and Tim Ferriss talking about Vitamin D Supplementation (Tim Ferriss Show: ep. #819)
Vitamin D is a critical nutrients for a whole host of reasons. And for those of us who don’t live in a year round sunny climate, or work in an office most of the year, it can be difficult to get appropriate levels from exposure to sun alone.
Critical for everything from immune function, to glucose metabolism, to heart health.
According to Dr. Sarah Ballantyne’s “Nutrivore”, optimal level of Vitamin D are between 50-70 nanograms per milliliter (others say 40-60), and Vitamin D deficiency is defined as anything below 20 nanograms per milliliter. 20-30 is deemed as Vitamin D “insuffiency.” Her recommendation (which is consistent with many other sources I have found) if you are low in Vitamin D, consider supplementing with 2000-5000 IUs of Vitamin D daily and regularly recheck levels with blood tests to ensure you are in appropriate ranges.
